Copyright and licensing

Copyright (c) 2026 The Metascience Observatory and its contributors. All rights reserved, except as expressly stated below.

Default terms

These terms apply to the original material in this repository and on the Metascience Observatory website, including website source code, design, text, documentation, images, and copyrightable database selection and arrangement. Except for the MIT exception below, separately licensed material, or uses permitted by law, no permission is granted to reproduce, modify, distribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit this material without prior written permission from the relevant copyright holder.

Public access to this repository does not grant a general license to reuse its contents. Rights granted under the repository host's terms of service, including viewing and forking through that service, are unaffected. Ordinary browsing and use of the website's publicly available features are permitted.

MIT exception for data ingestion code

The Python source files (*.py) under data_ingestor/ (including subdirectories) and scripts/ingest_eroe_effect_sizes.py are licensed under the MIT License in data_ingestor/LICENSE. This exception covers only that source code. It does not license datasets, metadata caches, documents, images, or generated outputs, whether stored alongside the code or produced by running it. All other original repository material remains subject to the default terms above unless a separate license is expressly identified.

Third-party material and existing rights

Third-party code, dependencies, datasets, publications, figures, and other assets remain subject to their respective copyright notices and licenses. These terms do not replace or restrict those licenses or revoke permissions already granted under them. In particular, the existing CC BY 4.0 notices for FORRT FReD and FLoRA data continue to apply. See the website's dataset acknowledgments and individual source notices for applicable terms.

No ownership is claimed over third-party material, public-domain material, or facts that are not protected by copyright. Nothing here limits fair use or other rights and exceptions provided by applicable law.
